You have just settled down for a quiet night with a book, a glass of wine or maybe a marathon viewing of your favorite TV show, when all of a sudden that new couple next door starts playing their music.  Now, it is not like you don’t like music and you understand that some nights, loud music is just called for, but this is starting to be a pattern, so what do you do.<\/p>\n

Well, you could resort to pounding on the wall, but that is not very neighborly.  Here are some steps to helping curb the problem in a friendly, non-confrontational way.<\/p>\n

1.  You should first understand your apartment’s bylaws\/rules about noise. Many dictate the time that noise is allowed, etc.  Understanding the rules makes it less personal.<\/li>\n
2. Second, you should have information and details. So start logging the times\/dates that the music or noise starts and ends.  This will help you later on.<\/li>\n
3. If you are friendly with your neighbor a friendly notification that their music is loud and that you can hear it next door. Sometimes this is all that it takes.<\/li>\n
4. If not, take the issue up with the leasing agent and be sure to bring your notes about the times that the noise disrupted your sleep or enjoyment of your apartment.<\/li>\n
5. You hope it does not come to this, but you can call the law officials or make a complaint with the city about the noise.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
