Here are some tips that will make the transition back to school easier even if you don’t have school age children, but you or someone in your apartment is attending one of the many schools near your Sherman Oaks rental apartment.
Adjust Your Sleep Schedule: Ease back into a regular sleep schedule a week before school begins. Set your alarm and get up at that time, take a shower and eat breakfast.
Create a Study Space: Time to put away the sandals and beach towels and replace them with backpacks, books and other school supplies. Create a homework station in a quiet area of the house for studying. Get the kids involved to help encourage excitement.
Plan Lunches: Many of you will take their lunch to school, talk about healthy and appetizing options with your child. Purchase a BPA free lunch container and set up a routine so your child doesn’t forget their lunch before or after school.
Do a Trial Run: Once you have set your alarm for a few days it is now time to run a practice trial run and make adjustments accordingly. Set the alarms, get dressed, eat and to the bus stop or school. Now analyze what worked and what didn’t. Make it fun, set a timer or plan an activity after.
Paperwork. Be sure that all of your paper work is in order before the start of school. This includes immunization or citizenship records and emergency contact information.
Dress for Success. Americans spend over $24.9 billion dollars on back to school supplies and clothing. Before you go out and buy for the new school year, check out these tips:
- Take a Supply Inventory – More than likely you purchased pens, paper, notebooks and other supplies last year. Ask your kids to round them up and reuse them when possible.
- Clean out Drawers – Clean out your drawers and closets; throw away clothing that doesn’t fit or is torn and take inventory on what clothes you have and how it could be paired with new purchases.
- Check Out Discount Stores – There are a number of discount stores that sell school supplies for reasonable prices, check them out before going to the more expensive office supply stores.
- Dress Code: Be sure to check your school’s dress code requirements, also it is a good idea to have your child go to school with only one or two purchases and then evaluate what you need once the school year has begun.
Have a great 2015/2016 school year.
